For the very first post of my travel blog, which better place to blog about, other than my most recent trip?! It was a very impulsive decision we made just 2 weeks before the trip to go to Japan, simply because Singapore Airlines was having a promotion on a 2-to-go package at a deliciously attractive rate! My recent trips have been pretty unplanned, which consisted of – buying a lonely planet, buying the round trip air ticket, reading the lonely planet 1 day before and on the plane, cross my fingers and hope for the best. But hey! That’s where all the excitement comes in! Not knowing what’s going to happen next! Some of my friends think I’m pretty mad.
Let’s get back to Fukuoka Airport!
Right after I hopped off the plane, (thank goodness, I have read the lonely planet on the plane) I headed straight for the shuttle bus stop which brought me to the domestic terminal where the rental car kiosks were located. At least I didn’t wander like an idiot in the International Terminal hunting for them. We booked a handy Toyota Corolla with a really spiffy GPS system.
It really put my Garmin to shame. The only drawback was, it was in Japanese, so I could only try to “guess” the meaning from the similar Chinese words. Anyway, the Toyota person taught us how to use it. You just need to input the phone number of the destination (easily found in the lonely planet or brochures) and the intelligent GPS will bring you there. The one I have at home, definitely can’t do that! Besides that, it even directed me to the EXACT lane to drive on! Cool yah! Also, it didn’t “lose its way” in the underground tunnels (and believe me, you can’t imagine the number of long and deep tunnels Japan has!), unlike the one I have at home. But then again, it may be the problem with the satellites back home. Not made in Japan…
Well, I did ask the Toyota guy 101 questions on how to use the GPS and also on the contractual agreement of the car rental. Since I couldn’t decipher a single Japanese word, it only made good common sense to ask more questions, right?! He put up with me long and good, must have been very exasperating for him to explain in English, which certainly wasn’t his best language. But at the end of the day, he still stood by us all the time and even bowed as we drove off! Well, he might have been cursing me under his breath, but who cares?! Really the best service in the world!(at least in the places where I have travelled to previously!)
